What is Gateway?
Wilderness Inquiry shares the outdoors with everyone, including persons with intellectual and physical disabilities. Designed for adults with developmental disabilities, brain injuries, and other forms of cognitive disability, Gateway to Adventure (Gateway) is a program that helps people develop the skills they need to enjoy inclusive outdoor recreation activities.
On Gateway trips, participants are provided support so they can learn and practice outdoor skills and social skills needed to have safe, enjoyable outdoor experiences. The goal of Gateway is to prepare individuals with cognitive disabilities to participate in integrated outdoor recreation activities, including Wilderness Inquiry's trips, that include people with and without disabilities as peers.
The Gateway program offers several ways to get involved in outdoor activities. You can sign up for one trip, or take advantage of our training program. The training program spends extra time preparing individuals for integrated acitvities.
